The Island Golf Club / The Island Golf Course

The Island Golf Club was among the first clubs founded in Ireland and from its opening date in 1890 up-until as recently as 1973 the The Island Golf course was only accessible by boat.  Today it is accessible by road and the Island Golf Club is a mere 15 minutes from Dublin Airport and approximately 30 minutes from Dublin City centre.

During the summer months The Island Golf Course and The Island itself is particularly rich and diverse in flora (especially visible to those not fortunate enough to confine their ball to the fairway), it is also home to a variety of birds including the eye-catching Stonechats and vocal Skylarks.

The Island Golf Course was a qualifying course for the British Open and ranked number 14 in Ireland for 2014 by Golf Digest Ireland and as such it is popular with locals and visitors alike.

The Island Golf Club is well worth a visit and is an ideal inclusion on Dublin golf trips and weekend breaks in the Dublin area.  Contact us at Old Country Golf & Tours to book your golf holiday.

One of my favourite courses anywhere is the Island Golf Course, in Donabate, Ireland, a few miles north of Dublin. It’s fourteenth hole – which may be the world’s most intimidating short par 4 – is called Old Clubhouse, because  the old clubhouse at the Island Golf Club used to stand where the tee box does today. In fact, the teeing ground is framed by the old foundation.
